Birdwatching and Bushwalking

	As the many keen birdwatchers who have done our trips can attest, bushwalking can give you a wonderful opportunity to see birds that you wouldn't be able to see elsewhere. On most trips, keen birdwatchers can happily spend hours watching the birds go about their business in their natural surroundings. The photo of the rare black grasswren at left was taken on one of our Kimberley bushwalks.
Early risers almost always have the opportunity to do a bit of birdwatching before we head off for the day. The long lunch and swim breaks give birdwatchers the chance to see the birds in the middle of the day. On most trips, we will often arrive in camp not long after lunch allowing keen birdwatchers plenty of time to bring out their binoculars and have a look at what's going on around them.

The photos speak for themselves. You get beautiful campsites, wonderful scenery and an unparalleled opportunity to observe a variety of birds in their natural habitat.

Some of our birdwatching clients have provided us with lists of the birds they have seen on our trips. Here are a few lists which give a good indication of the number and kinds of birds you might see.

• Kakadu: Twin to Jim Jim Birdlist
  This list shows the birds seen on three different Twin to Jim Jim walks in different years.
• Kimberley: Mitchell Plateau Birdlist
  This is from one of our Mitchell Plateau trips.
• Red Centre: Finke-Watarrka Birdlist
  This is from one of our Finke-Watarrka trips.
• South Africa Birdlist
  The person who provided this list told us that she had seen more species of birds on our trip than she had seen on a specialist birdwatching trip.

Once upon a time, we offered a couple of specialist birdwatching tours. Neither ever got off the ground so we dropped them. We would, however, be happy to do something similar as a charter if a group was interested. Our birdwatching tours were

• a wet season, partially accommodated trip in Kakadu
• a dry season trip to the Mitchell Plateau

Both trips were to be run as joint ventures with George Swann's Kimberley Birdwatching Tours.
