Self Drive Transport Change.

Since 1988, every vehicle we own has been registered as a self-drive hire car. This allowed us to use two vehicles with one guide. It also allowed clients to drive if the guide felt tired. Recent changes to NT legislation mean that this cannot continue. Our choices are the following.

Keep all vehicles registered as self-drive hire cars.
This would mean that
- No guide could ever drive in the NT. (In WA it may still be permitted.)
- More than one person could drive the vehicle -- a safety plus.

Register some vehicles as Tourist Vehicles and leave others as self drive hire.
This would mean that

No client could drive the Tourist Vehicles.
No matter how tired the guide was, he or she would have to continue driving or stop for a break and delay the trip. This shouldn't be a problem on most trips, but it could be a major hassle on the ones where there is a lot of driving.
Clients could continue to drive the hire cars.

Safety is my number one concern. On one hand, all our guides have more 4WD experience than most of our clients. On the other, 4WD isn't used very much and having multiple drivers available allows a change if the driver is tired.
