Many rock paintings do not photograph very well. This means that a good sketch can give you a better picture of the art than a photo. The sketch above right shows one of the most famous paintings in Kakadu, inaccessible except on a multi-day walk.

The drawing at the left above shows a petroglyph, one of the few rock carvings we have encountered in Kakadu. The one at the right shows some of the rocky country we walk through. Some of the terrain is so broken that going as little as 100 metres to the right or left of a particular gully can mean a walk of up to an extra hour.

The Baroalba - Hill 420 area contains one of the greatest concentrations of Aboriginal art in Kakadu. All our trips here spend a substantial amount of time visiting a variety of art sites, all of which cannot be reached except on a multi-day walk.
