Munja Track

July 5-12, 2009

Please be patient. The photos on this page may take a while to download.
  • Incredibly Remote. The Munja Track starts a long way from the nearest town and takes over a day to drive.
  • Amazing Aboriginal Art You see several excellent Aboriginal art sites.
  • Beautiful waterfalls and gorges. Only a handful of people have seen the places we will visit.
We begin with a drive from Kununurra to Mount Elizabeth Station where we join the Munja track. We follow the track to a small safari camp near Bachsten Falls, nice enough but there is much better a bit further. We will do a four or five day loop down the creek below the falls, through a pass to another creek, up a gorge to another waterfall and finally back to where we began. By taking our time, we can drop our packs and explore well beyond where we have been before without having to carry our packs any further. On our previous visits, we found a number of Aboriginal art sites. With more time, we should find more. For those who are interested, the fishing should be excellent.
excellent.

Back on the main Munja track, we continue to Wren Gorge where we do a short walk to an overnight camp site near which we find yet more Aboriginal art.

When we return to the vehicles, we drive to the Pantijan airstrip where we meet those coming in to do our Charnley Explorer trip.
